The money in the cashier is missing, and all the workers are being interrogated. Most of them are illegal immigrants who strive to defend their jobs, which is their only legal status in the world, as they prepare endless dishes and try to keep up with the restaurant's constant flow of orders. One of the chefs is Pedro, a young Mexican who seeks more in life than this job can offer. He is a dreamer and troublemaker who falls in love with Julia, an American waitress who cannot establish relationships with undocumented foreigners. The owner of the barbecue restaurant, Rashid, promised to help Pedro handle the documents. But when Pedro was accused of stealing money and discovered Julia had an abortion, he became furious and took action to permanently stop the kitchen production line.
